Welcome to Sangeetha Swara Laya, state of the Art Indian Music Academy! We’ve been teaching Indian Classical Music in Malaysia for 13 years and are proud to be the premier Music Academy in the Country, which awards recognised academic qualifications to our students, upon completion of their courses.
Sangeetha Swara Laya has grown in the last 13 years from a handful of students based in one state Johor to a national Academy with 8 centers traversing the length of the Malay Peninsula. The brainchild and untiring efforts of Dr. Hariharan, his drive and vibrant energy has seen to the expansion and growth of this small family based organization into a success story. We can be proud to say we have still not lost that family feeling and atmosphere even though we have expanded hundreds of folds since the beginning.
Sangeetha Swara Laya’s unique vision led us to fortify our Academy’s own strengths with World renowned names like Alagappa University, India and Alagappa Performing Arts Academy, USA, to bring us into this millennium with recognized qualifications awarded to our qualifying students. Never before seen in Malaysia, we held four convocation ceremonies to celebrate our student’s successes, which in turn are a reflection of our own growth and achievements.
Sangeetha Swara Laya now equipped with an Administration team, highly trained professionally, academically qualified and experienced teachers and classrooms condusive to delivering our structured programs of education is currently moulding great minds of our future generations. This success has only been possible as a partnership between student, teachers and the parents. We are proud to being preserving the heritage and culture as well as contributing to an all-round development of our students.
The history of Sangeetha Swara Laya began in 1999 with Dr.Hariharan Subramaniam’s vision to create an excellent community development program for the Indian youths. Today’s youths are very much occupied and overwhelmed with the many challenges that life presents them. Influences from the environment, society, peers, media and the knowledge development required of themselves towards a fruitful and bright future represents some of these concerns.
As concerned parents we too would only want the best in terms of learning and development for our children. With this thought in mind and quantitative discussions with many parents alike, Dr. Hariharan Subramaniam has come up with this interesting Community Excellence Program. This program through a systematic, creative and well monitored approach in Indian Classical Music, is designed to help enhance, develop and equip our youths with the fundamental knowledge and thinking skills in achieving the following :

Sangeetha Swara Laya, State Of The Art Indian Music Academy Was Born
Sangeetha Swara Laya was then founded by Mr. Rajaguru Ayathuray, Mr.Subramaniam Ayathuray, Dr.Hariharan Subramaniam and his family in the year 2006 and has now been established for five years. The Academy is devoted to teaching Indian Classical Music in a formal environment. It began humbly, with only 5 students. Today it has 1 Principal, 4 full time teachers, 5 centre managers, 2 part time teachers and over 700 students with a curriculum that reflects the cultural diversity of a unique country with an ancient heritage.
Thanks to my family and Mr. R. Vairavan Chairman and CEO of Alagappa Performing Arts Academy (APAA) for helping me in creating a bridge of education in Indian Music with APAA and Alagappa University. Developing and sustaining the curriculum has been one of the greatest challenges for the Academy so far, but one which has now yielded many benefits. It has fostered home grown talent and created an awareness and understanding of the Indian cultural heritage, which is particularly valuable in the multi-ethnic Malaysian society.
In the early years, Sangeetha Swara Laya’s efforts were principally directed towards the organisation of concerts in music. In 2005, our efforts were mainly channelled towards the creation of an Academy to provide tuition in the fine arts, initially in Carnatic music specializing in Tabla, Mirdhangam, Veena and Sangeetham. SSL has utilized the opportunities that occured from the transformation of Malaysia into a global player to prepare its students to face up to the challenges as competition increases.
Sangeetha Swara Laya is an Indian cultural academy in Malaysia that has achieved a high level of technical excellence in the teaching and learning of traditional Indian Music. Graduates trained at the Sangeetha Swara Laya State Of The Art Indian Academy provide principal support to other Indian cultural groups.
The contribution of Sangeetha Swara Laya to Indian Music in Malaysia has been expanding. One of the aims is to help Malaysian Indian youths rediscover the cultural, artistic and spiritual wealth of their forefathers and to make it relevant for themselves and for our future generations. Sangeetha Swara Laya’s Convocations 2010 and 2012
7th August, 2010. A major benchmark was set in Malaysia, a rather important and memorable moment for the Indian community in Malaysia, as SSL’s first ever graduates received their scrolls proudly from the Chancellors of Alagappa University. All their hard work and efforts had paid off as they gained recognition via academic qualifications signifying their proficiency to perform in their chosen disciplines of music, after several years of strict training and studying.
This grande event was again repeated in March , 2012. Thus proving, that we are determined and committed in our dedication to serve our community and grow positively, sustaining our standards. Local Political leaders and Dignitaries from India and USA had come down to join us, the Staff and Directors of SSL, to make this event a total success adding importance to their sense of achievement. An evening of grand feast of classical music was arranged and performed by the various students of the Academy; The Dance Academy Kalaikkottam further enriched the festivities with graceful and talented artistes in Bharathanatyam performing alongside our musicians. The Honoured guests were all treated to a lavish spread of food and drinks whilst enjoying the performances of our professional lecturers to the Academy.

Course Description
Introduction to the Indian Music is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of the musical practices related to the music industry. The course focuses on skills necessary for beginning and maintaining a professional career in the music industry. This course serves both the student who is wishing to increase his/her knowledge of the basic music practices of the music industry and the student who is considering further study of the music. The course utilizes lecturers and guest speakers from the music and entertainment industry from India and Malaysia with respect to career development. The course has a strong emphasis on practical applications of classroom knowledge to the music environment.

Examination Pattern
The examination system will be semester system. The student should enroll and complete the applications and the student details will be sent to Alagappa University. The students then can sit for the examination on the stipulated date given by APAA. Successful candidates will be awarded the respective certification by Alagappa University and APAA.
Awards
The University will award respective certificates, diplomas and degrees based on successful completion of program by the students. APAA will provide the course completion certificate from APAA and Alagappa University.
