Many people in this country are quite sceptical when one mentions corporate social responsibility. 'CSR is vague', 'CSR is just for image', '(CSR) is a morally correct action or only for a good business sense'. These reactions stem from various perspectives, disciplinary background and experiences experienced by the society.

The purpose of this book is to gain some insight into CSR standards of practice after the government's involvement in Malaysia. The book investigates the implementation of the new CSR guidelines from the Silver Book which is specifically designed as part of the GLC Transformation Programme, understanding on CSR, possible motivating factors, level of awareness and CSR meaning before and after the introduction of the Silver Book.

The Silver Book which is designed for organisations in Malaysia, mainly for private sectors provides a clear guideline on CSR as commented by the GLCs involved. Some GLCs already have a translucent idea of what actually hold the term CSR, however, have plenty of room for improvement in handling CSR matter. In the end, all GLCs come to unanimity that CSR in Malaysia should have a paradigm shift whereby it is no more a one off action but moves towards sustainability CSR as outlined in the Silver Book.
