Teaching Mathematics in Secondary Schools: Theories and Practices

Noor Shah bin Haji Saad graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Mathematics and Biology from University Sains Malaysia and obtained his teaching certificate from Maktab Perguruan Persekutuan Pulau Pinang. Later, he obtained his Master of Education degree in mathematics curriculum development from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaya and his Doctor of Philosophy degree specialising in pedagogical content knowledge & the teaching of mathematics from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. In the field of education, he has had experiences working as secondary school teacher (1973-1985), lecturer in teaching training colleges (1986-1987) and as an assistant director in charge of mathematics curriculum at Teacher Education Division (1987-1998). Ministry of Education Malaysia. He was also given the opportunity to undergo courses in mathematics and science education at the renowned National Institute of Educational Research in Japan and at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. In 1996, he was assigned as the Education at the Faculty of Science & Technology, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (since January 1999). Sazelli Bin Abdul Ghani graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degree from University of Newcastle, England in 1983 and obtained hi Diploma of Education from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1984. later, he obtained his Master of Education degree (Mathematics Education) from University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2005. He worked as a secondary school mathematics teacher for ten years and  teacher training college lecturer for over three years prior to joining Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics in 1998. Currently, he holds the post as a senior lecturer in the same department.
