In the era of globalisation with the high rate of urbanisation, human habitats are facing unpredictable environmental risks. Urban heat islands, water crises, food security, global warming, climate change, environmental disasters, etc. do make all the professionals in the built environmental industries worry about the sustainability of the environment. Therefore, a basic understanding of the subject matter and the ways to combat the issue of sustainability has become the main content of this book.

The seven topics in this book cover:

  1. Green township development and the use of Post Occupancy Evaluation Model (POEM);
  2. Neoliberalism and its influence on the urban and country planning systems in Malaysia;
  3. Urban environmental health and the indicators;
  4. Carbon sequestration in urban green reserves and open spaces;
  5. Remote sensing and GIS in managing and assisting the urban environment and climate studies;
  6. Sustainable practice and facility management in universities; and (7) the importance of preserving urban tree planting.
