BUAH BUTON

As a symbol of the Adat Perpatih community in Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan, the buah buton is a three-dimensional carving carved on the bottom of a wooden stick. However, there are few problems to produce this book, such as difficulties in obtaining materials about the relationship between cultural context and buah buton influenced by the Adat Perpatih. This issue relates to the detailed description of the symbolism of the life of this customary community and the context of nature, which are said to be interrelated. In addition, there is no book on the visuals of the buah buton based on its natural context, which is another issue with the book. Therefore, the main purpose of this book, is to sharing knowledge and discussing in detail related to information pertaining to the custom and tradition of the Adat Perpatih community in Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan; the design elements of buah buton from the traditional houses of the Adat Perpatih community in Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan; and the visual image of buah buton that constitute the cultural context on Negeri Sembi[1]lan traditional houses. It can be concluded that the buah buton is a cultural iconic that represents aspects of personality and symbolism for the community that has adapted to its natural environment. Therefore, the authenticity of the subject must be preserved based on the content of the buah buton as a symbol of the Adat Perpatih community’s identity, in addition to making it a subject that gives meaning to the community’s life.
