Nowadays, the number of studies published in the biomedical literature, mostly in medicine and health, has increased tremendously over the past few decades. There are too many trials, 25,000 biomedical journals in print, and 8,000 articles published per day. This massive abundance of literature makes clinical medicine increasingly complex, and knowledge from various researchers is often needed to formulate a particular clinical decision. However, all studies are often heterogeneous regarding their study design, operational quality, and subjects under study. Also, different ways of handling the research question and interpretation add to the complexity of evidence and conclusion synthesis, even with a well-designed study or data interpretation. Therefore, conducting a systematic review is the solution to answering a defined research question by collecting and summarising all empirical evidence that fits a pre-specified eligible criterion. Results from systematic reviews are the cornerstone for developing mostly clinical practice guidelines.
Instructor Biography
Mohamad Rodi Isa (MBBS, DAP&E, MPH, DrPH) is a medical lecturer in the Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM), Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health from the University of Malaya. He has an interest in Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology. He has advised numerous students, researchers, and lecturers on approaches to conducting research and performing data analysis. He published numerous local and international journal publications. He is also a speaker at numerous biostatistics and research methodology workshops conducted by the university.
Zahir Izuan Azhar (MBBS, MPH, DrPH) is currently a Public Health Medicine Specialist and lecturer in the Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM), Malaysia. He has published articles on systematic reviews in local and international scientific journals. Notable achievements include winning the Bronze Medal at the UITM Invention, Innovation and Design Exposition (IIDEX) 2017, Conference and Silver Medal at the UiTM International Conference of Clinical and Health Sciences 2017 for 'Massive Open Online Course-Introduction to Systematic Review.
Mohd Shahril Ahmad Saman (MD, MPH), lecturer in the Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teicnologi MAFIA (UITM), Sg. Buloh, Malaysia. He has a special interest in behavioural epidemiology. For the past 10 years, he has advised numerous researchers at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA, on approaches to conducting research and performing data analysis. He earned his M.P.H. at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2010. Earlier, he obtained his medical degree with an M.D. from the same university in 2000.
Nik Nairan Abdullah (MBChB, MPH (Family Health), PhD (Community Health)) is a senior lecturer and a Public Health Medicine Specialist at the Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM), Malaysia. She is involved in teaching subjects of family health, urban health and research, and epidemiology of non-communicable diseases (cancer). Apart from teaching, she conducted supervision for postgraduate students. She has been invited as a reviewer for international journals. She has published papers in regional and international journals on urban health diseases, women's health screening, elderly health and family cancer caregivers, and mental health related to COVID-19.
