Penerbit UiTM has invited you to try Laboratory Manual of Plant Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology
Laboratory Manual of Plant Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology
This laboratory manual is designed for students in the Plant Biotechnology Programme. The manual provides an overview of plant molecular and cell biology standard lab practices to facilitate the students in understanding the topics they learn during the theory classes. This manual covers genomic isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), gel electrophoresis, ligation, competent cell preparation, transformation, verification of recombinant and laboratory safety policies as key components of the entire course.
Instructor Biography
Yusuf Chong Yu Lok, Ph.D., is currently a senior lecturer in UiTM. He obtained his Master's and Ph.D degrees in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology. He has isolated the main lignin biosynthetic genes from oil palms and studied their expression behaviours. The sequences of the lignin biosynthetic genes were submitted to GeneBank (NCBI). He has also isolated the promoter sequences of the selected lignin biosynthetic genes. Previously, he also worked as a research assistant in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Besides, he published his works on lignin biosynthetic genes in the Scopus-indexed journals.
Shamsiah Abdullah, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the field of plant biotechnology at the Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). She has a passion for incorporating modern breeding techniques for crop improvement in her classroom as well as promoting undergraduate research experiences for all students. She received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Biotechnology and a Master of Science from the University of Malaya, and her Ph.D. in genetics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She has supervised more than 20 postgraduate students, including Master's and Ph.D.'s, and has published scientific papers in national and international journals. Currently, she is working on the mutation breeding of several crops, including rice, banana, stevia, and ginger.
