The world is grappling with the depletion of natural resources due to escalating pollution that continues to harm the environment. The global focus today is on sustainable development to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. The importance of such efforts is underscored by the inevitable reality that the future's needs cannot be jeopardised by perpetuating pressure on the Earth's natural resources. Exploitation of resources, coupled with the generation of excessive by-products, is leading to waste and pollution. In light of this, sustainability in business is crucial not only to address activities impacting the economy but also the well-being of the environment and society.

The manufacturing sector has been identified as one of the primary contributors to environmental degradation and resource depletion. However, manufacturing firms require consistent and sustainable supply sources for their future survival. Consequently, the adoption of sustainable supply chain management practices becomes unavoidable due to its vital strategic role in the current business environment. This contemporary paradigm illuminates the rationale behind the recent trend of companies extending their environmental responsibilities beyond organisational boundaries. By actively engaging in the reduction of waste generation and the prevention of pollution, these entities are not only safeguarding their economic interests but are also assuming a crucial role in the collective effort to protect and preserve our shared environment.
